You are a student nurse and working in the Far North is something you would like to experience in the future. Here are a few suggestions to help you prepare so that your dream comes true:
- Acquire emergency reflexes: Nothing can replace 6 month to 1 year spent in emergency care. The best is to work in a small hospital´s emergencies with various cases and patients of all age groups, especially in triage, shock room and resuscitation room.
- Become more autonomous: Try to anticipate things as often as possible. Wonder what decision you would have taken in a problematic situation and compare it with experienced nurses or doctors. Home nursing and total patient care also help to improve your decision making.
- Develop your versatility: Have as many different work experience as possible. Work in active departments such as float nursing, pediatrics, obstetrics, surgery, outpatient clinics...
- Come out of your comfort zone: As you may notice, even if you love working in your actual department and with your actual team, if your dream is to go to the Far North, then you will have to move places to prepare for the greatest adventure of your life!
